one who approaches mainstream culture with agnosticism, taking what works and discarding the rest, also characterized by a fondness for the vintage and anachronistic, the over-intellectual and self-conscious. A nod to my favorite novel, Mark Z. Danielewski’s House of Leaves; one of its several appendices is called “The Three Attic Whalestoe Letters.” I’ve lived in several attics (three, in fact).  Attics are places of madness but also intense creativity — the place where you might keep your insane first wife or your starving artist tenant.

“It pays in this world to play out your passions.” — The Threeattic Whalestoe Letters
