Achievements

At the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM), I helped to design and maintain two massive institutional websites.

  • In 2009, I helped to design and build a website for the Division on Earth & Life Studies (DELS) which provided an exhaustive catalog of the Division’s work and accomplishments
  • This involved strenuous lobbying on my part to drag the DELS leadership into the 21st century – in debates with the Executive Director of the Division, my win/lose ratio was about 1:1, but I believe I earned Dr. Muir’s respect with my willingness to assert and defend viewpoints on website and communications strategy that often opposed his.
  • That willingness to speak up and passionately defend my point of view served me well on the “Unified Web Team,” which a small group of NASEM website managers and technology personnel came together to informally create in 2014
  • We developed a proposal for unifying the dozens of websites maintained across the Academies’ many divisions and programs into one institutional site that would convey the full breadth of our work and expertise.
  • After several years of weekly meetings and ongoing pressure on our institutional leadership, this plan was accepted, funded, and carried out, with the new nationalacademies.org going live in 2020.
  • I migrated the content of the DELS website content (~10,000 pages) into the new “Unified Website,” in the process substantially streamlining and simplifying it.
  • I created the content update ticketing system we use to take update requests from program staff and get them completed and published; the efficiency of our system and the speed of our responses have drawn significant praise from across the institution.

The Coil Project is a small but growing non-equity theater in the D.C. area, of which I am a co-founder.

  • I’ve formally served as Communications Director and Co-Artistic Director, and have provided constant support and leadership to the group throughout our eight-year history.
  • In addition to those roles, I’ve also served as producer, director, actor, stage manager, set designer, and/or costume designer on all but two of our 21 main-stage productions (see my full theatrical resumé)
  • Several of the shows I produced and marketed, including Fiveplay (2022) and Rewiring Eden at the Capitol Fringe Festival (2019) performed extremely well in terms of audience and critical reception, selling out multiple performances and garnering glowing reviews.
